HC directs state govt to file affidavit on steps taken to repair pothole-ridden roads

Panaji: The High Court of Bombay at Goa, on Monday, directed the state government to file an affidavit on steps taken to repair the pothole-ridden roads in the state.

The Aam Aadmi Party has filed a petition before the Court over the potholed roads in the state.

The Court drew the attention of the Advocate General to an earlier order by the Bombay High Court wherein detailed guidelines were laid to draw a mechanism for the people to lodge complaints against bad roads and potholes and which also have other details, so that a scheme could be formulate for Goa. 

The High Court division bench comprising Justice M S Sonak and Justice Nutan Sardessai adjourned the matter till October 14.

The Court also told the petitioner to contribute for addressing the issue of potholes.

The state Advocate General Devidas Pangam submitted that steps are been taken to address the issue of potholes, however, difficulties have been faced due to rains.

The Aam Aadmi Party said that the High Court has directed the respondent state government to file an affidavit on steps taken to repair the potholed ridden roads in the state.

General secretary of the Aam Aadmi Party Pradeep Padgaonkar, who is the petitioner in the matter, said that he was encouraged by the fact that the Court itself drew the attention of the Advocate General to an earlier order by the Bombay High Court wherein detailed guidelines were laid to draw a mechanism for the people to lodge complaints against bad roads and potholes.

Padgaonkar said that display of the names of the contractors as well as engineers at site of work is one of the prayers before the Court the others being a Court monitored investigation into the loss of lives and the corruption involved as well appointment of a commissioner so that people can report cases to him. Besides the state, petitioner has made the PWD, directors of both the municipal as well as the panchayats administration and the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation as respondents.
