A brace by Macklon Colaso and a goal each by Safik Sheikh and Richard D’Sa enabled Guirdolim SC to register a comfortable 4-0 win against Verna SC and enter the semi-finals of Our Lady of Fatima Cup football tournament played at panchayat grounds, Dicarpale on Friday.
Macklon Colaso who scored a brilliant brace bulged the nets in the 30th and 41st minute while the other goals were scored by Safik Sheik (53rd minute) and Richard D’Sa (62nd minute).
Playing a pressing game, Guirdolim SC were in the hunt for goal scoring chances right from the start and as they looked goal hungry, it did took a while for the team to get into the lead, despite coming very close.
Guirdolim could have found the mark in the 7th and 15th minute of play had not the tries of Darren Fernandes been smartly saved by Verna SC keeper Francis Fernandes.
Guirdolim SC went into the lead following a nice build up by Darren Fernandes who on entering the top of the box passed the ball to Macklon Colaso in the 30th minute whose angular effort gave no chance to Verna SC keeper Francis.
The second session saw Guirdolim having a total say in the proceedings with Macklon completing his brace for the day in the 41st minute when his scorching shot crashed to the far end of Verna SC nets.
Guirdolim SC continued their attacking play with Safik Sheikh finding the mark in the 53rd minute to score their third goal for the day.
Verna SC who appeared lost in the midfield as well in the defence, then conceded another goal when Richard D’Sa banged the ball in off a neat cross from the right in the 62nd minute.
Verna defence looked shaky in the second session though the team did hold on for a while in the first half to contain the Guirdolim SC strikers.
The flood gates opened completely in the second half when Guirdolim started charging up, camping in the rival box for most part of the play as goals came in at regular intervals.
Guirdolim SC who were in
their best form did well in the defence and also the midfield with the strikers
having no difficulty at all to beat the rival keeper who was totally at the
mercy of Guirdolim
Verna tried to salvage some pride in the last few minutes of play by sending some long shots which were off the mark.
Guirdolim keeper Oswin Rodrigues proved to be a good pair of hands when Verna SC tried some shots in the first session of play and in the dying minutes of the game. They will now meet Navelim Villagers Union in the semi-finals scheduled to be played on Sept 30.
