Panaji: Goa Pradesh Youth Congress Committee (GPYCC) members, on Monday, gheraoed the principal chief engineer of PWD Uttam Parsekar at his chamber at Altinho, Panaji, in protest against the ongoing water crisis in Tiswadi and Ponda talukas.
The Congress workers came with the empty buckets and water bottles as a mark of protest over the mismanagement on the part of the department in restoring water supply in both the districts after a part of the retaining wall built along the national highway collapsed on August 15, thereby damaging two major water pipelines running along.
The GPYCC members led by its president Varad Mardolkar and general secretary of the party Amarnath Panjikar also raised the issue of potholes on roads across the state.
Panjikar claimed that water shortage has also been witnessed in other parts of the State, including in Canacona, and demanded supply of water through water tankers to all the affected areas.
The GPYCC threatened the principal chief engineer Uttam Parsekar of intensifying their protest if the issues raised by them are not addressed by the PWD.
Pasekar assured to convene a joint meeting of all the concerned engineers of the department and the delegation of GPYCC within eight days and resolve their issues at the earliest.
“We are currently undertaking the work to repair potholes on a 100 kilometer road stretch in the state. We are working round-the-clock to ensure that water supply is restored in Tiswadi and Ponda talukas, and as far as other areas are concerned we will check and take required measures,” he said.
