Goencho Avaaz lays bare top politicians ‘involved’ in agricultural land conversion

VASCO: Non-governmental organisation (NGO) ‘Goencho Avaaz’ on Sunday exposed the names of some Goan politicians and real estate developers involved in the conversion of agricultural and forest lands on a large scale in different parts of the state.

Member of ‘Goencho Avaaz’ Manoj Parab said that Maulana Ibrahim, in partnership with Usha Sardesai, wife of Town and Country Planning Minister Vijai Sardesai, and Wolfango Fernandes has purchased a common land at Seraulim in survey no 42, 43, 63, admeasuring 20,375 square metres under Heritage Builders.

M/s Ira Exotica, Curtorim (land brokers Suvi Infra), TCP Minister Sardesai and partners have sold an area of 12,050 square metres in survey no 20/11 (RP-2021) in no development slope for Rs 3 crore, according to ‘Goencho Avaaz.’ Initially this property was bought for Rs 60 lakh, stated the NGO adding that the locals are being harassed over road construction and the case is pending.

The NGO stated that TCP Minister Sardesai, under Heritage Builders and Developers, has bought property at Velsao-Pale in survey no 57/2 having an area of 4,125 square metres, while Jupiter Enterprise has purchased property with an area of 7,379 square metres in Velsao-Pale. The NGO further stated that Sardesai and Kennedy Alemao have bought 4,000 square metres of land at Velsao.

A huge property totally admeasuring 14 lakh square metres has been purchased by Jitendra Deshprabhu in the villages of Dhargal and Paliyem next to the Mopa airport plateau, ‘Goencho Avaaz’ stated.

The NGO also said that Revenue Minister Rohan Khaunte has bought property at Chorao under survey no 300/3 and 294/1-A under Samatma Estate Pvt Ltd, admeasuring 18,650 square metres. Cuncolim MLA Clefasio Dias is having a property at Sarzora under survey no 190/1 admeasuring 27,900 square metres and also at Mullem under survey no 155/1, 43/1 and 3, 136/4, 137/62, totally admeasuring to 36,156 square metres, it was stated.

Benaulim MLA Churchill Alemao is having properties at Varca and Benaulim with a total area of 32,092 sq mts. Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha has a property in Cansaulim village with an area of 41,542 sq mts. Mormugao MLA Milind Naik has sold 479 square metres of land for Rs 53 lakh after purchasing it for Rs 5 lakh in survey no-24/12 in Dabolim, the NGO said. It has been alleged that Naik has encroached 160 square metres of government land under PT sheet no 30 and chalta no 21 and 22 in Vasco.

It was disclosed by the NGO that Panchayat Minister Mauvin Godinho has bought 88,329 square metres of land at Salem in Bicholim. It has also been alleged that Wilson Godinho, under J M Township and Real Estate Pvt Ltd, has lakhs of square metres of land in Pernem taluka.

Deputy Speaker Michael Lobo has also bought land in Candolim, alleged the Goencho Avaaz member Parab. Navelim MLA Luizinho Faleiro has purchased land with an area of 1,01,850 square metres in survey no 94 of Cavelossim village wherein water bodies and bandhs in riverine islands are shown as settlement, he said.

There were allegations of conversion of land on large scale from A1 to S1 in Dabolim, Chicalim and Sancoale areas, involving builders and real estate developers. There are about 8,500 individual applications for the conversion of lands, stated the NGO. It was disclosed that around 21 lakh square metres of land have been procured by builders and real estate developers in the state which will have a serious impact on Goans.
