Nowadays with hygiene being a top priority, hand sanitisers to automatic sanitiser dispenser machines have been placed at workplaces and public places. And now, an infant stage Goan start-up ‘Maand’ has built an automatic mist sanitiser dispenser machine. “This is the only machine that’s made in Goa which uses spray technology and not like other machines which dispense the sanitiser drop by drop,” claims founder of Maand, Nabhey Samant.

The idea came to Samant when he realised that products which dispense liquid in drop by drop format were of no use when it comes to sanitising things, for example keys and a number of things that one carry along. “So I thought of coming up with a product which can be used for sanitising your essentials and your hands also at the same time,” he says adding that the machine is available with capacity of one and five litres.

A final year engineering student at Shree Rayeshwar Institute of Engineering and Information Technology (SRIEIT), Shiroda, Samant was helped by co-founders of Maand, Saiesh Kholkar and Dhruvil Shah (his college classmate) and Vasant Sutar Gaiakwad, who conducts metal and wood workshops at the college. “Gaiakwad sir has an interest in innovating things and motivates students as well to innovate and be creative with the things that they do,” says Samant.

The major difficulties they faced were at the starting phase when they tried to make a number of prototypes of the same product but somehow did not get the proper outcome. Another issue was getting the hardware, as the whole India was under lockdown. “We were not able to get some electronic items in large scale delivered to us,” he says, adding that it took around a month and a half to complete the product.

Samant further states that in future Maand plans to make several other Goan
products.
