Goan FC score 8 past Churchill Bros; Salgaocar win

Panaji: Goan Football Club scored a thumping 8-0 win over Churchill Brothers SC in the GFA’s U-20 Taca Goa Division One League match played at Dramapur ground, on Friday.

Ivon Costa impressed for Goan FC with a first half brace.

Vincy Barretto scored in the 6th minute to give Goan FC a perfect start. The teams restricted their game plan to midfield battle but Churchill Brothers were hardly a threat to their opponents and as such they conceded their second goal as Goan FC doubled the account in the 23rd minute through Bryce Miranda.

Soon it was one-way traffic as the junior Gaurs scored their third goal at the half hour mark through Sarineo Fernandes. Ivaon scored two goals just before the breather and Doyal Alves also scored to make it 6-0 at the break.

Crossing over, there was no change in the script as Goan FC dominated the game pushing Churchill Brothers on the back foot. The junior Gaurs ended the match 8-0 thanks to two more goals from Lesley Rebello and Lincoln Colaco.

Meanwhile, Salgaocar FC handed Velsao Sports and Cultural Club their first defeat in the league as they beat them by a solitary goal at Cansaulim ground.

Velsao were enjoying their dream run in the league having beaten Goan FC and Churchill Brothers SC in their earlier encounters. But despite playing their hearts out, they fell short against Salgaocar FC as Steflon D’Costa’s 31st minute strike inflicted first defeat upon them.
