With an aim to rediscover Goa’s heritage through its houses, Soul Travelling held another edition of the ‘Houses of Goa’ trail. The ‘Houses of Goa’ trail is a concept by Soul Travelling in collaboration with writer Heta Pandit, to change the way tourism is portrayed in Goa. The idea is to introduce the world of Goan houses to locals and tourists alike, to meet the owners and to listen to these ancient walls speak.
In the previous editions, Soul Travelling explored the villages of Saligao, Bandora, Priol and Aldona. In this edition, Soul Travelling made a foray into the unmapped village of Canacona. The trail was led by local experts Viplav Prabhugaonkar, Hrishikesh Kadam and Om Prabhugaonkar.
The first stop of the trail was a visit to the house of Canacona MLA and deputy speaker of Goa, Isidore Fernandes, who introduced the participants to the village of Loliem. There were stories shared about his house and about the artefacts around. The other houses visited included the Boruskar House in Painguinim and the Naik Gaonkar house in Chavdi. As part of the trail, local monuments, a majestic statue of Betal in Loliem and the Mallikarjun temple of Sristhal were also explored.
