Panaji: Goa tasted a bitter defeat as they went down to Andhra by nine wickets in the Syed Mustaq Ali Trophy match played at Jadavpur University Ground in Kolkata on Friday.
Batting first, Goa’s top order provided a steady start but their middle and lower order came cropper against a disciplined Andhra bowling attack and finally folded to a meagre 113 in 19.3 overs.
Suyash Prabhudessai was the highest scorer with 32 runs, while Snehal Kauthankar and Deepraj Gaonkar scored 20 and 21 runs respectively. Wicketkeeper Aditya Kaushik was back after being lbw by M Reddy for just 16 runs. The rest who followed failed to get past single digit figures.

Chasing Goa’s small total of 113, Andhra remained virtually not out, with just one wicket falling when there was only one run required to win. Openers, Ashwin Kattingeri and Srikar Kona put up a 113-run stand scoring 37 and 76 runs respectively.
Srikar was the more explosive of the two hitting 7 sixes and 3 boundaries while eventually getting out just one run before victory to Goa’s Malik Sirur. Andhra got across the finishing line in the 13th over.
