Panaji: Goa went down to Services by 21 runs in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy match played at Jadavpur University Campus in Kolkata on Thursday.
Batting first, Services put up 190 runs on the board but Goa’s chase was cut short to 169 as the top and lower order failed to provide crucial support.
Services’ openers Lakhan Singh and Ravi Chauhan put up a 112 run stand scoring 81 and 61 runs respectively. Rahul Singh and Anshul Gupta contributed 10 runs each and helped post a total of 196/6.
Among the Goan bowlers, Maliksab Sirur was the pick of the lot, picking up a 5 wicket haul and gave away 33 runs in his four overs. Deepraj Gaonkar was the other wicket taker.
Chasing, Goa lost two quick wickets within the span of 39 runs. Opener Prathamesh Gawas could only make 5 runs before returning to the pavillion. His partner, Aditya Kaushik’s slow innings of 8 runs ended after he was sent back by Umesh
Snehal Kauthankar’s 44 was the highest score by a Goan batsman remaining not out as he ran out of partners on the other end.
Goa’s innings folded at 169 in 19.5 overs, as Services’ Mohit Kumar took 3 wickets while Diwesh Pathania and Varun Choudhary picked two each.
