SJD Areal sail into semis

DRAMAPUR: Sao Jose de Areal entered the semi-finals of St Joseph Festival Cup football tournament defeating Dramapur SC by a solitary goal played at Dramapur grounds on Saturday. The all important goal which proved to be the match winner in favour of Sao Jose de Areal came off when Dasly Costa scored in the 65th minute. Sao Jose de Areal will now meet Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda in the semi-finals on Sept 30th.

Murida win on penalties to book final berth

MERCES: Murida Veterans made it to the final of the 1st Sai Veterans Super Cup as they beat Fatorda Veterans 4-3 in a penalty shoot-out during the semi-final played at Merces Church Ground on Saturday. Goalkeepers of both sides displayed some fine saves to keep the scoreboard unchanged. In the tie-breaker, Murida scored through Bobby, Francis, Seby and Teofilo, while only Agnelo, Manu & Gomes were on target for Fatorda. Murida will now play Candolim Veterans in the finals to be held on October 2.

Boys and girls team for Jr Nat’l Tennis Ball Cricket C’ship selected

PANAJI: Goa Tennis Ball Cricket Association has selected a team of junior players (boys and girls) who will be representing the state at the 27th Junior National Tennis Ball Cricket Championship scheduled to be held in Nagpur from Oct 2-5. The following are the boys team: Smitesh Sawant, Sachin Malik, Vedang Naik, Samesh Naik, Sagar Gaude, Gaurang Pikulkar, Shrutikesh Jalmi, Ritesh Parab, Darshan Kholkar, Kaushal Churi, Ajay Halgekar, Narayan Shetye, Vallabh Naik, Rohit Kalmankar. North and South Goa C’ship on Oct 5

PANAJI: Goa Athletic Association will be conducting the North Goa and South Goa District Championship 2019 at Athletic Stadium, Bambolim Sports Complex on October 5 in order to select the athletes for the National Inter District Junior Athletics Championship 2019 scheduled to be held in November at Tirupati. Boys and girls born between Nov 26, 2005 and Nov 25, 2007 are eligible for U-14 category and boys and girls born between Nov 26, 2003 and Nov 25, 2005 are eligible for the U-16 category. Last date to submit entries is Oct 3. Vidya Mandir U-17 girls are state champs

VASCO: Girls of Vidya Mandir emerged champions in the U-17 state level badminton tournament organised by DSYA at Peddem by defeating Rosary High school, Miramar 2-0 on Saturday. In first single’s match Vidya Mandir’s Shreya Rao defeated Nyssa Rodriguez 2-0 (21-15, 21-13) and in the other match Tanushri Shadani defeated Ruccha Bhobe 2-0 (21-07, 21-10).

GCA U-23 selections on Oct 1

PANAJI: Goa Cricket Association will be holding selection trials for U-23 boys at Goa Cricket Academy, Porvorim on Oct 1 at 9.30 am. Players born on or after Sept 1, 1996 are eligible for selections; they should arrive allong with their original birth certificates.
