Tanisha wins doubles gold

PANAJI: Goa’s Tanisha Crasto along with her partner Aditi Bhatt won the gold medal in the badminton doubles category at the Dubai Junior International Series 2019 on Sunday. Tanisha and Aditi outplayed her opponents Treesa Jolly and Varshini Sri 2-0 (21-17, 21-17).

Jovel’s brace hands Curtorim easy win

CANSAULIM: Curtorim Gymkhana registered a 2-0 win over Cuncolim Union to enter the quarterfinals of CAC’s Three Kings Cup football tournament played at TB Cunha Sports Complex grounds, Cansaulim on Sunday. Curtorim’s impressive striker Jovel Dias scored both the goals finding the mark in the 3rd and 34th minute.

Salgaocar outplay Navelim to enter finals

BENAULIM: Defending champions Salgaocar Veterans outplayed Navelim Veterans 3-0 to storm into the finals of the 19th V M Salgaocar Memorial Veterans Soccer tournament organised by Prime Sports Club and played at St John the Baptist Ground, Danddo Benaulim. Salgaocar opened their scoring in half-time through Benedict Fernandes in the 15th minute. After crossing over, Salgaocar netted through Climax Lawrence in the 42nd minute and 2 minutes later Robert Fernandes curled in a right footer from long distance to make the issue very safe for the defending champions.

SJD Areal in quarterfinals

DICARPALE: Sao Jose de Areal entered the quarterfinals of Our Lady of Fatima Cup football tournament defeating CAC, Cansaulim 6-5 via the tie breaker played at Dicarpale panchayat grounds on Sunday. The teams played a 1-1 draw during the regulation time. CAC Cansaulim went into the lead through Barbosa in the 30th minute while Sao Jose de Areal levelled the score through Alvito Maura in the 63rd minute. Sao Jose de Areal proved to be the better shooters in the tie-breaker to win the match.

Ambelim clinch win through tie-breaker

NAVELIM: Ambelim SC entered the quarterfinals of Gold-Silver Rolling Trophy football tournament defeating Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda 7-6 via the tie breaker played at Rosary grounds, Navelim on Sunday. The teams played a 1-1 draw during regulation time. Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda went into the lead through Raul Fernandes but then Ambelim restored parity through Nial Cardozo. In the tie-breaker Ambelim SC proved to be the better shooters to win the match.

Goa to host West Zone Inter State Badminton Championship from Sept 18

PANAJI: Badminton Association of India along with Goa Badminton Association will be hosting the West Zone Inter State Badminton Championship 2019 at multipurpose stadium, Peddem, Mapusa from September 18 to 21. Top badminton players from four states, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Gujarat along with Goa will participate in the event.

Inter-school U-16 tennis ball cricket tourney from Sept 19

PANAJI: The 17th Goa State Inter School Sub-Junior U-16 Tennis Ball Cricket Championship for boys & girls organised by SSV Govt High School, Kumbharjua in collaboration with Goa Tennis Ball Cricket Association will be held from Sept 19 – 21 at Panchayat Ground, Gavant, Kumbharjua. The players born or after Jan 1, 2003 are eligible to take part the championship. The last date to submit registration forms along with a photo is September 17.
