Reuben finishes second in Nat’l Amateur Chess C’ship

PANAJI: Goa’s Reuben Colaco finished joint second with 7.5 points at the 8th National Amateur Chess Championship, held at Bhopal, on Sunday. Gujarat’s Anadkat Kartavya won the championship with eight points. Reuben Colaco was tied on points with Tanmay Chopra with 7.5 points. Meanwhile, Sairaj Vernekar of Goa finished joint 3rd with 7 points.

Aashrun, Anjana win Goa Major Ranking Badminton Tournament

PANAJI: Aashrun Gautam and Anjana Kumari won the men’s and women’s category title of the Rasik Memorial All Goa Major Ranking Badminton Tournament held at multipurpose hall, Fatorda. Aashrun put up a fine performance to register a dominating 21-15, 21-9 win over Tejan Fallary. In women’s singles final, Anjana Kumari outplayed Yasmin Sayed winning 21-16, 21-12 to claim the title. In the mixed doubles final, Tejan Fallary and Anushka Kuvelkar had a comfortable outing against Floyd Araujo and Prajal Chimulkar winning 21-13, 21-13. In the mens doubles Tejan Fallary and Suraj Lama were crowned champs.

Fadte in semis of PSA Squash C’ship

PANAJI: Goa’s Yash Fadte entered the semi-finals of the HCl PSA Sqush Championship after he outplayed Kuwait’s no 1 player Ammar Al Tamimi 3-1 (11-13,11-6,11-9,11-6). The result of the match is the best upset of the tournament so far. Yash was seed last in this event and he beat Al Tamimi who was thee 3rd seed in the championship.
