Candolim Veterans move into quarters

TALEIGAO: Candolim Veterans moved into quarterfinal of 7th All Goa Panjim Veterans Football Tournament defeating Assolda Veterans 5-4 via tie-breaker, at Taleigao ground on Friday. Earlier the teams played out a 1-1 draw in the regulation time. While Govind Palekar scored for Candolim Veterans, Rocky Fernandes netted for Assolda Veterans. Both the goals were scored in the second half as the first half remained goalless. In the tie-breaker, Govind Palekar, Caetan Xavier, Ambrosio Fernandes, Celestino Fernandes and Francis Dias scored for CandolimVeterans while Alex Alvares, Pascoal Fernandes, Raymond Alvares and Custodio Fernandes were on target for Assolda Veterans.

Navelim, Dona Paula face off in U-13 girls final

PANAJI: Navelim will face Dona Paula in the U-13 girls final of the GFDC Rising Stars Football Festival scheduled to be held next month. In their respective semifinals, Navelim beat Utorda 3-2 via tie-breaker at Assolna ground, while Dona Paula beat Arambol by a solitary goal, which was scored by Maria Hussain.

U-9 chess: Vedant in lead with 6 others

MANGESHI: Vedant Angle, Ethan Vaz, Varad Prabhu, Kanishq Sawant, Saeeja Dessai, Sarya Kerkar and Jennica Sequeira are leading with two points each at the end of second round of All Goa U-9 Open and Girls State Chess Championship, being held at Wagle High School, Mangeshi on Friday. A total of 100 children are participating in the tournament, which has been organised by Ponda Taluka Chess Association.
