Vasco Veterans book quarters spot

PANAJI: Vasco Veterans earned a spot in the quarter final of the 7th Panjim Veterans Soccer Tournament defeating Tiswadi Veterans by a solitary goal in their match played at Taleigao ground on Sunday. The match winning goal was scored by Derick Pereira.


Bardez Veteran enter semis after close tie-breaker

CURTORIM: Bardez Veterans entered the semi-finals of Curtorim Veterans football tournament defeating Fatorda Veterans 2-1 via the tie breaker played at DSYA grounds, Curtorim on Sunday. The teams played a goalless draw during the regulation time. In the tie breaker Bardez Veterans proved to be better shooters, scoring through Francis Andrade and Antonio Crasto. Fatorda Veterans could find the mark only through Ramesh Virnodkar.


All Goa Fide Rated Open Chess championship from May 15

PANAJI: Salcete Taluka Chess Association will be conducting the All Goa State Fide Rated Open Chess Championship where players will be selected for nationals. The championship will be held from May 15 to 19 at Conference Hall, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium at Fatorda, Margao in association with Goa Chess Association and Sports Authority of Goa, stated a GCA press note.



Goa Professional League: Dempo Sports Club V Goan Football Club, Ella ground; Sporting Clube de Goa V Churchill Brothers SC, Duler ground. Both matches start at 4.00 pm

GFA First Division League: Salgaocar Football Club (Jrs) V Goa Police Sports Club, Cansaulim ground, 4.00 pm

7th Panjim Veterans Soccer tournament: Joe Cookies, Loutolim Ponda V Varca Vaterans, Taleigao ground, 5.00 pm

Mormugao United, Sao Jose de Areal register wins

VASCO: Mormugao United showed their supremacy over Varca Sports Club 4-1 in the Round 2 match of the Goa Football Association Second Division Football League match played at the Dr T B Cunha-SAG ground, Cansaulim.

Mormugao shot into the lead in the 21st minute through Nesscidade Moniz.

The lead was short-lived as Varca equalised through Joylon Cardozo. But Stallen Lucas put Mormugao ahead with a good goal which was followed by Govind Thapa and Nessicidade Moniz scored a goal each to give Mormugao United full points.

In another match at Cavelossim, St Jose de Areal beat Cortalim Villagers 4-1. Sao Jose de Areal took the lead in the 26th minute through Alroy Moniz but Cortalim Villagers made it all square just before the breather through Clinton Fernandes.

Crossing over it was all Sao Jose de Areal’s affair as they totally dominated the game and outplayed their opponents scoring three more goals through Aggio Antao, Monty Valadares and Melisho Camotin to take the final score to 4-1.
