Shawn hat-trick floors Loutolim
CHANDOR: Shawn Noronha’s hat-trick enabled SCC Loutolim blank Varca SC 3-0 and enter the quarterfinals of 45th Chandor Seaman Rolling Trophy football tournament, at Chandor grounds on Thursday. Shawn scored in the 9th, 27th and 63rd minute. In the last quarter of the match Varca SC’s Clinson Pereira had a good chance to reduce the deficit but his shot at the rival goal missed the target narrowly. Loutolim defenders Joseph Baptista and Baren Gomes gave good account of themselves as they kept the Varca strikers at bay.
Rossman Cruz secure easy win
BENAULIM: Rossman Cruz SC entered the quarterfinals of 33rd Strikers Trophy football tournament defeating St Anthony’s SC, Colva 3-0, at St John, the Baptist grounds, Benaulim on Thursday. Jeloy Moniz scored a brace for Rossman Cruz finding the mark in the 14th and 25th minute, while Chirsto D’Mello scored the other goal in the 65th minute.
Anjuna Gymkhana enter finals
CALANGUTE: Anjuna Gymkhana SC edged out Navelim SC to make the finals of Late Anthony & Santana Carvalho Memorial Cup, organised by St Savio’s SC, Calangute played at Poriat football grounds here on Thursday. After a barren first half, Tanay Naik’s volley from 10 yards off a Rohit Kamble pass in the 50th minute proved to be the match-winning goal for Anjuna Gymkhana.

Aayush Shirodkar wins U-15 rapid chess
FATORDA: Aayush Shirodkar won the U-15 rapid chess championship, organised by Salcete Taluka Chess Association, on the occasion of Independence Day, at Fatorda. In the last round on top board Aayush drew with top seed Vraj Porob to win the title by scoring 6.5 points out of 7. He remained undefeated throughout the tournament. On the second board Ishan pagi outplayed Eesh Prabhudesai to win the 2nd place and on the third board Sairaj Vernekar beat Vivaan Ballikar to finish third.
Banga Bab Boys emerge winners
SALIGAO: Bang Bang Boys won the All Goa 3-a-side tie-breaker tournament, organised by Saunta Vaddo United, Calangute at Baga Beach, as they beat Mae de Deus 3-2 in the final. Around 80 teams participated in the tournament. In the semifinals, Bang Bang Boys defeated Shawn & Shanaya Boys, Mapusa 3-2 while Mae De Deus beat King Uncle, Baga 2-1. In U-14 category, Baga Blasters emerged victors after getting the better of Baga Boys 2-1.
