The vice president of the Goa Forward Party Durgadas Kamat on Thursday said that the chief secretary, the labour secretary and the labour commissioner have all admitted that there were bogus beneficiaries in the Goa Building and Other Construction Workers (GBOCW) Welfare Board Assistance Scheme – COVID-19.
The Goa Forward Party had petitioned the Goa Lokayukta to launch an inquiry into the Goa Building and Other Construction Workers (GBOCW) Welfare Board Assistance Scheme – COVID-19, and sought an urgent hearing into the alleged diversion of funds to the Bharatiya Janata Party workers.
“The funds, which were meant for poor construction workers, were paid to people who fraudulently registered for the scheme and should be recovered,” GFP had petitioned. The hearing in the case took place on Thursday.
“After transferring funds to around 7,355 beneficiaries, they have now started re-verification process, following the expose,” Kamat stated, further claiming that the labour commissioner also admitted that two sarpanch and panchayat members having refunded money and asked for de-registration of their names.
The GFP vice president also informed that the labour commissioner requested for a time of 8 weeks from the Goa Lokayukta to submit his preliminary report in the matter. “However, the Goa Lokayukta agreed for a period of only 4 weeks,” he added.
