GFA set to resurrect women’s football

PANAJI: The GFA Women’s Committee met on Thursday for the first time under chairman Juliana Gujrao e Colaco and held discussions on how to resurrect women’s football in Goa.
“We have decided to resurrect women’s football in Goa by first reviving the under-14 tournament for girls, which will be held in February next year. The senior girls have not fared so well hence we have decided to focus on the youngsters,” stated Colaco.
The deputy director of DSYA further added:“The DSYA is organising Under-19 tournament for girls too, and we intend to streamline the talent in this age group and groom them for the senior team.”
“As there is no budget for women’s football, we would be requesting GFA executive committee to issue Identity Cards to all the girl players without any fees,” she said.
“Talent needs to be scouted and we have plans to start a day boarding school for the talented girls. We have decided to ask the GFDC for its help in this direction,” she said.
Earlier, GFA president Elvis Gomes welcomed all the members of the committee.
