The Vasco Sports Club, organisers of the Goa River Marathon (GRM) will be organising its first promotional run on August 11 at the Verna Industrial estate area. This is in a run-up to the 10th edition of the Goa River Marathon scheduled to be held at Chicalim, on November 17 later this year.
“Our club has been actively involved in spreading long distance recreational running all over Goa. We are having the inaugural promotion run for 2019 at the Verna Industrial Estate to encourage employees of various Verna companies to run along with the active running community of Goa,” said secretary, Vasco Sports Club, Rakesh Unny.
The theme of the 10th GRM is ‘Run for Green Goa’ and therefore every runner participating in this Sunday’s run will be presented with a fruit bearing sapling. Miguel Braganza, a retired bureaucrat and an organic plant promoter will also give a talk on how to plant these saplings to the runners.
According to Unny, promotional runs such as these help new runners with training and advice to achieve their goal of either their first 10 kilometres or first half marathon race. The promotional run start point is the IDC office premises in Verna. The half marathon will start at 6 a.m., the 10 kilometres run at 6:30 a.m. and the five kilometres fun run at 7 a.m. Runners can register for free. A nutritional breakfast will be provided to all runners post the run. Details: 0832-2511333/+91 9702097035.
