With an aim to promote a green and clean Porvorim, the third edition of NoMoZo or Non Motorised Zone was held. The initiative embodying the message of fitness, health and environment was conceptualised two years ago with an idea of creating a platform where everyone could leave their motor vehicles behind and head out on the motor-free road with their friends and families creating a carbon-free street.
In his inaugural address, promoter of NoMoZo, MLA Rohan Khaunte spoke about the objective behind organising NoMoZo and highlighted the need for motor-free streets. “NoMoZo was designed to bring people from all walks of life together and help them socialise as one community. Such unique initiatives further our efforts in ensuring improved ease of living for Porvorkars and Goenkars as a whole,” he said.
The festivities began with a carnival parade of Goans which kick started an evening full of food, fun, dance and music. This edition saw superstar Yash of KGF-fame along with the FC Goa team present as the celebrity guests for the evening. A memorandum exchange was also carried out between the FC Goa management and Salvador de Mundo panchayat under the guidance of MLA Rohan Khaunte where the panchayat ground was declared to be managed and maintained by FC Goa academy with an aim to encourage children and the youth and promote football in Porvorim and Goa.
NoMoZo 3.0 featured a kids’ zone, fitness zone, sports and games zone, art zone and health zone. On-stage activities included folk music, dance performances, and more. Over 70 stalls were put up by locals, self help groups and other groups showcasing and selling their unique products. There were also dedicated cycling and skating zones that were enjoyed by children, youth and seniors alike.
