The one hundred and forty eight women players shortlisted by Goa Football Association for the players draft to participate in the Senior women’s league were equally shared by the four teams that participated in the draft held at a hotel in the capital city on Wednesday evening.
Each of the four teams – Churchill Brothers SC, Albert Developers, PVC Parra and Bidesh XI- picked up 37 players during the draft. The teams are expected to register 25 players in the Central Register System before the tournament commences on November 15.
The teams are expected to check the players selected in the draft and decided on the best 25 in around ten days time.
“It was a nice evening where all teams felt they were given an equal chance of choosing the players that they could through the draft system. There was no quibbling among the contesting managers and for once, GFA is set to have a league where not only the girls are assured of fare wages and players selected with all teams have a chance of having good players,” Carol Gomes, chairman of the Women’s committee told this newspaper.
“There have been a lot of fake accusations being hurled
on us. However, those accusations help prove the hidden agenda of those who
have opted out. In a way, we are happy that those with vested interest and not
the interest of ladies have decided to go,” said Carol after
