The Goa Labour welfare board has sanctioned Rs 4000 each to four thousand labourers and the Goa building and other construction workers welfare board sanctioned Rs 6,000 to 15 thousand workers who are registered with the labour and employment department as an emergency relief during lockdown period.
Labour and Employment Minister Jenifer Monseratte on Saturday said that in these trying times, when we are facing one of the toughest challenge of our life, poor labourers, construction workers are facing bleak future due to loss of their livelihood, thus the government decided to extend them support in this difficult time.
As an emergency measures, all registered construction workers, around 15,000 of them , shall get a monetary package equivalent of 15 days of wages of a semi-skilled worker, under the “Goa Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board Assistance Scheme COVID-19”, she said.
“We have also decided to sanction Rs 4,000 as a onetime relief to all GBOC workers under the scheme “Goa Labour Welfare Board Assistance Scheme COVID-19”. This would benefit another 4000 eligible labourers,” the Minister added.
All transfers shall happen transparently through direct bank transfer (DBT) to the bank account of the labourers and workers without any application, the labour and employment department said.
