Finally, state gets Board for Wildlife

Panaji: The Goa government has constituted the State Board for Wildlife under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.

According to the notification issued by the under-secretary (forest), the Forest Minister is the vice chairman of the board.

Besides Poriem MLA Pratapsingh Rane, Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha, Sanguem MLA Prasad Gaonkar, the Principal Secretary (Forests), Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, secretary of Tribal Welfare, managing director of Goa Tourism Development Corporation, Director General of Police, a representative of the Armed Forces not below the rank of a Brigadier, the Director of Animal Husbandry and director of Fisheries are the members on the

board.

The notification further states that the director of Wildlife Preservation, a representative of the WildLife Institute of India, Dehradun, Botanical Survey of India, Zoological Survey of India, Birds Conservation Network, Vivekanand Environment Awareness Brigade, Wide Fund for Nature, India, environmentalist Rajendra Kerkar, Amrut Singh, Charan Desai, Arnold Noronha, Dr M K Janarthanam, a professor of Goa University, herpetologist Devidas Gaonkar, Dr Baban Ingole, a retired NIO scientist, Dhillon Gaonkar, Milind Kharkhanis, a retired Deputy Conservator of Forests, Ajay Gramopadhye are also the members of the board. The Chief Wildlife Warden is a member secretary of a panel.
