FC Goa make light work of Vasco SC

Duler: Riding on a brilliant brace by Nestor Dias, FC Goa registered a fluent 4-0 win against Vasco SC in the Goa Professional League match played at Duler Stadium, here on Monday.

Aaren D’Silva and Vincy Barreto scored the other two goals for the Gaurs.

FC Goa, who had an upper hand in the possession right from the start, had two back-to-back chances to surge ahead in the early minutes but first Vasco defender Mainoo Dadanuvoor blocked Nestor Dias in the box, and few minutes later FC Goa U-20 winger Flan Gomes was brilliantly denied by defender Sanwil D’Costa with a timely


FC Goa’s Sezwin Fernandes and Brian Faria had a chance each to put their side ahead in the next few minutes but both the lads saw their strikes from the top of the box zoomed over the crossbar.

At the other end, FC Goa keeper Guidle Syiemlieh had a walk in the park in the entire session as the Port Towners failed to create a single potent attempt at the goal in the rest of the session.

After probing attacks, the Junior Gaurs finally managed to break the deadlock in the 24th minute when their U20 Sweden Fernandes made a through pass to Flan who found unmarked Aaren DSilva in the box with a square pass. The lad, later calmly tapped the ball home to put his

side ahead.

Led by a goal, FC Goa did not take too long to add the second as Vasco keeper Sanju Thapa failed to collect an easy low cross by Sweden where Vincy made no mistake to slot the ball in the net making it 2-0 in the 39th minute.

With just a minute left to breather, the junior Gaurs had the best chance to further extend their lead when a floater by skipper Leander D’Cunha was nicely collected by Vincy but the midfielder failed to keep his placement on target from close as the ball travelled just past the side post.

However, Nestor Dias made it 3-0 for the junior Gaurs in the 69th minute as Brian Faria strike was brilliantly blocked by Vasco defender Sanwil but the ball travelled to Nestor who smartly back-heeled the ball to find the net

from close.

Energized by the goal feast, FC Goa added another to their tally in the last 10 minute as skipper Leander found Nestor at the top of the box with a neat pass and placed it at the far post to

make it 4-0.
