Fake currency circulating gang arrested: Rs 2.7 cr seized

Chittoor: Kuppam police on Wednesday arrested a six member gang who had been circulating fake currency notes and seized about Rs 2.7 crore fake currency notes from them.

The arrest happened at Samagutta Palle in Kuppam mandal where they rented a house for their nefarious deed. According to Kuppam Rural CI Krishnamohan, the arrested were identified as Manikantan, Kuberan, Anantha Kumar, Suresh, Hemanth and Suresh.  Police received a complaint from a shopkeeper of Ramakuppam about a fake Rs 200 note which he had taken from unknown person.  Based on the complaint, the police intensified their surveillance in and around Kuppam area for few days.

After finding leads, a team has raided a house located in Samagutta Palle where they found fake Rs 2000, Rs 500 and Rs 200 bundles. In their investigation, police learnt that the house owner Anantha Kumar also one of the accomplice in the gang. Disclosing their modus operandi of exchanging fake currency, CI Krishnamohan said two persons Manikantan and Kuberan who belonged to Tamil Nadu met Anantha Kumar in his village a few months back and after they struck a deal between them, they involved three more persons Suresh, Hemanth, and Suresh from Tirupati through Ananthakumar.
