Noite de Fado (Fado night) was celebrated at Cidade de Goa’s fine dining restaurant Alfama.
The fado, a Portuguese origin song, is a mellifluous haunting melody, evoking passions of love, sorrow, jealousy and guilt. The fado had its origins in the 19th century in the Alfama district of Portugal. A fado, was sung by the families and lovers of sailors who sailed off on voyages to discover new lands. They are expressive, satirical and highly emotional songs.
The fado evening at Cidade de Goa is a tribute to the past. The interiors of the restaurant Alfama are inspired by the bohemian town square of Lisbon, accentuated with romantic balconies and alcoves with musicians to serenade guests during dinner. The fado is sung by famed fadistas of Goa including fadista Sonia Shirsat who wow audiences with their soul-stirring renditions. The wonderful experience was accompanied by a special menu curated by chef Bhasker that offered a delectable array of Goan and Portuguese cuisine to suit every palate.
