Members of the Calangute Legal Aid Cell, VM Salgaoncar College of Law organized a programme on ‘Women Empowerment and Self Employment’ at Calangute Village Panchayat Hall.
The aim of the programme was to celebrate women empowerment as an important constitutional right by highlighting various schemes introduced by the government for the benefit of women. The programme was attended by members of the Mahila Mandal and self help groups in Goa.
Chief guest for the programme was MLA Michael Lobo. In his address, he spoke about starting a new bazaar in Calangute where self help groups could display their products. He also spoke about his journey right from taking a loan at the age of 18 from EDC to start his own business and how he diversified over the years.
The guest speakers at the event were Muriel and Ida from EDC who spoke about the Chief Minister’s Rojgar Yojana (CMRY), a scheme that empowers women entrepreneurs.
Other dignitaries present were deputy sarpanch, Calangute, Pooja Matkar; Calangute panch members, Sudesh Mayekar, Dinesh Simepuraskar, leaders of Calangute Mahila Mandal groups, Nita Kerkar and Nivedita; faculty incharge, Calangute Legal Aid Cell, Sandhya Ram and cell incharge, Calangute Legal Aid Cell, Amit Naik.
