Dunes SC shoot out Goa Velha



Dunes Sports Club secured a 5-4 win over Goa Velha Sports Club via tie-breaker in the Anjuna Gymkhana Cup 2019 match played at Anjuna Gymkhana ground, here on Monday. The match had ended in a 1-1 draw during the regulation time.

Both the teams had equal opportunities from the start of the first session but they could not manage to make most of it.

However, in the dying minutes, a long throw-in from Dunes’ Amit set up Leslie in the box and
the last named without wasting any time slotted the ball in the back of the rival nets to put his side ahead at the lemon

Trailing 0-1 at half time, Goa Velha came out stronger in the second session and made numerous attacks on the rivals but most of them went into vain with aimless strikes while few were died before entering the box.

Goa Velha had the best chance to level the term when they were awarded a freekick just outside the box but their defender Joseph’s shot missed the target by a whisker.

The next two minutes of the game saw Goa
Velha miss three easy chances.

However, their hard work finally paid off in the last few minutes of the match when Dunes defender, in the process of clearing the danger, put the ball in his own net to make it 1-1 for Goa Velha.

In the tie-breaker, Dunes SC’s Shashanle, Vivele, Kanulkar and Amir made no mistake from the spot, while for Goa Velha only Anthony, Lokesh and Suresh could manage to beat Dunes keeper.
