‘Drama’ unfolds on tiatr stage

Tension prevailed at the Ravindra Bhavan in Margao on Saturday evening while a tiatr (Konkani drama) titled ‘Answer’ was being staged there when a group headed by a woman marched onto the stage and assaulted a tiatrist cum director, who was singing a song as the tiatr was on.
A Margao police team had to intervene and take away the woman. The confusion continued for over an hour and the show had to be discontinued. The incident took place around 4.30 pm.
Police have registered an offence against 15 persons including the woman, who led the group. She was arrested and later released on bail.
According to the police, as the Konkani drama ‘Answer’ was being staged at the Ravindra Bhavan, tiatrist cum director Conception de Tuem came onto the stage to sing a song. While the song was being sung, a woman Jennifer Fernandes, resident of Dhuler, Mapusa, who was among the audience, stood up and marched onto the stage along with a group and assaulted Conception.
Police further said that there was confusion and an exchange of words in the auditorium following the incident. Upon receiving information, a police team rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. The police team headed by Pratik Bhat tried to pacify the members of the audience, who were agitated with the developments unfolding on the stage and subsequently cancellation of the show. A large number of people from Salcete taluka were among those attending the show when the drama occurred.
Police have registered an offence against 15 persons including Jennifer, who led the group, under Sections 143, 147, 341, 323 read with 149 of the Indian Penal Code based on a complaint filed by Conception de Tuem. The alleged accused Jennifer was arrested and later released on bail, said police while the search is on for others, who accompanied her.
It is learnt that the woman, who was arrested is the wife of a noted tiatrist cum director, and the song was being sung to malign image. However, police said that further investigation in the case is in progress.
