Cansaulim: Dicarpale SC got the better of Ambelim SC 3-1 via tie-breaker and entered the quarterfinals of CAC’s Three Kings Cup football tournament played at T B Cunha Sports Complex grounds, on Thursday. The teams played a goalless draw during the regulation time.
The first half saw both the teams match each other well in all the departments of the game as the defence of both teams kept a tight vigil on rival strikers.
Both the teams adopted a cautious approach and played a defensive game in either sessions.
Ambelim SC could have scored in the 12th minute when striker Nial Cardozo was in the clear to find the mark however his none too powerful shot missed the mark narrowly.
Ten minutes later, Dicarpale SC retaliated with a good move but the strong header off Ryan Furtado just sailed over the bar, missing the mark narrowly.
Dicarpale’s Piedade Colaco, Cliffton Rebello, Standly Miranda and Jaison Vales looked impressive in the defence and in the midfield Jaison moved up and down as he sent defence-splitting passes in the upfront and also fell back whenever the situation demanded.
Ambelim SC too had a good game with Steven Pinto, Premson Fernandes, Macron Fernandes and Leslie Fernandes soaking most of the pressure in the defence and at times overlapping to send some good passes, which their strikers failed to capitalise on.
The goalkeepers at either end looked confident. While Benny Silva proved to be a good pair of hands for Ambelim SC, Dicarpale keeper Avin Vales also rose to the occasion as he made some spectacular saves midway into the second half.
As the teams were involved in a dead-lock, the tie-breaker system had to be adopted to decide the winners wherein Dicarpale SC proved to be better shooters.
