Dempo SC U-20 defeated Churchill Brothers SC U-20 3-1 to secure full points in the GFA Taca Goa football tournament played at artificial turf outside Nehru Stadium, Fatorda on Friday.
Dempo were leading 2-1 at half time through goals scored by Shankar Gaunder (28’) and Vineet Bugde (36’).
In the second session, Dempo who came up hard with some dangerous looking moves scored their third goal through Kapil Hoble in the 56th minute.
Churchill Brothers pulled one goal back through Ramandeep Kumar just at the stroke of half time.
The teams were evenly matched for most part of the play as they displayed good ball control and positional play. While Dempo gave a good account of themselves, Churchill did not lag behind and were seen sending some scorching shots to harass the Dempo keeper Flazheen Souza who excelled in both the sessions with superlative saves.
Dempo went into the lead when a sudden move caught Churchill defence by surprise as striker Shankar Gaunder on collecting a smart pass from the right took two steps forward and then let go a fine shot to beat Churchill keeper Gurudev Balbir Singh in the 28th minute of play.
Dempo then began to move faster and came up with another great goal following a direct free kick, which Vineet Bugde smartly curled to the left of Churchill keeper.
Churchill worked hard and their good efforts paid rich dividends when in the 45th minute of play Ramadeep Kumar beat the Dempo keeper with a left footed drive.
In the second session both the teams displayed fine skills but it was Dempo SC team that dominated major part of play.
Dempo scored their third goal when Kapil Hoble ran down the flank and on entering the box sent a beautiful shot to beat the Churchill keeper.
