Sahil Tavora, Kapil Hoble and Ali Mohammad scored a goal each as Dempo SC beat Curtorim Gymkhana 3-0 in the Goa Pro League match, played at Rosary grounds, Navelim on Thursday.
While medio Sahil Tavora found the mark in the 28th minute of the first half, the other two goals for Dempo came in the second session as midfielder Kapil Hoble found the mark in the 65th minute and defender Ali Mohammad struck in the 80th.
The first half was fought evenly with both the teams working neatly to get the better of each other. But it was the Dempo SC team that was seen enjoying more possession of the ball and could have scored at least two more goals had the strikers been accurate in their shooting skills.
Sahil Tavora found the mark when striker Joy Ferrao laid a pass to him on the edge of the box.
Aniston Fernandes tried thrice to beat the Curtorim Gymkhana keeper, once sending a powerful header which missed the mark narrowly and on the other two occasions send scorching shots which were just a wee bit wide.
Dempo SC were constantly on the attack but what the strikers failed to do was to focus their attention on shooting the ball accurately. However, things turned better for Dempo SC team with the induction of Steven Fernandes, Deryl Endro and Hayden Fernandes who kept the moves flowing resulting in two more goals in favour of the team.
It was during such spell that Kapil Hoble sent a powerful left footer after Derul Endro and Shallum Pires moved down the right flank involving themselves in a one-two and then sending a deft pass to Kapil to do the rest.
The third goal for Dempo SC came off when Hayden Fernandes sent a smart flag kick, finding Ali Mohammad whose good effort hit a rival defender and entered the nets.
With this win, Dempo SC have collected 19 points from 11 matches while Curtorim Gymkhana are yet to open their account.
