Acceding to the request of the Deltin Group, the state government has given permission to the owner of ‘Deltin Caravela’ casino vessel to shift the vessel from its current location in the Panaji stretch of the Mandovi to Verem side of the river.
Sources in the government said the Deltin Group had approached the concerned authorities with a plea to allow them to take the vessel towards Betim side. However, the request was turned down.
The particular casino-cum-floatel is anchored near the Campal bay in the river, just opposite the premises of the Old GMC complex in the city.
The Deltin Group had written to the government seeking permission to shift the vessel from the current location towards Verem. The reason cited for seeking the shifting of the vessel was that the vessel experiences heavy rolling and pitching during every change of tide, which causes discomfort to the guests onboard.
“I have cleared the file and the order has been issued by the government
allowing change in the location of ‘Deltin Caravela’,” said Minister for Ports Michael Lobo.
The Deltin Group owns three casino vessels – ‘Deltin Royale’, ‘Deltin Jaqk’ and Deltin Caravela’ – which are anchored in the Mandovi.
Lobo said the vessel will be shifted to its new location in the next few days.
When asked about the move on shifting all the casino vessels out of the Mandovi, Lobo said the Captain of Ports is in the process of identifying the locations near the Aguada Bay.
