Delivery of grocery items worked out for Mapusa and surroundings


Mapusa – Taking ahead assurance of providing grocery items at door step, Local bodies including Mapusa municipal council, Panchayat bodies along with respective MLA’s have made provision wherein list of grocery items along with delivery numbers are made available.

The announcement of 21 days lock-down has created panic among the local resident who can be seen struggling to get their essential commodities to meet their day- to- day requirements hence as relief state government announced home delivery of essential commodities at door step.

Following direction of government Mapusa municipal council has formed a system for delivery of essential commodities at doorstep for resident of municipality after seeking all required approvals from authorities.

The grocery delivery service commenced from Thursday onward as locals were directed to place their order between 9 am to 11 for list of 15 items comprising of rice, Flour, Oil, Sugar, Pulses, Salt, Potatoes, Onions and other items are available for home delivery wherein it received mixed response.

Being the first day locals complained of lines being busy and no responses however municipality justify stating that currently one vendor is catering to four- five wards. Municipality has approached Deputy collector with another list of five vendors for approval, after approval list of vendors will increase to 10.

On similar line a doorstep delivery service is also arranged by for people of Aldona constituency under supervision of Aldona MLA Glenn Ticlo which is likely to commence from March 28 wherein essential items will be supplied in packets of RS 500 an Rs 1000 each as per requirements of households items like Atta, Rice, sugar, Pulses , tea leaves. The cost of delivery is free.

Similar provision is also made by Verla canca panchayat, The Sarpanch Milton Marques informed that we have tied up suppliers of fish vegetables, grocery and milk and who will take orders and give home delivery to local resident.

Tivim MLA Nilkant Halarnkar has also declared that soon supply chain for delivery of packages of essential groceries will be made available at door step. Even similar delivery system is also being worked out for Siolim Constituency at panchayat level. MLA Vinod Palyekar informed that following from Deputy collector panchayat wises provision will be made for delivery of grocery items.
