DBO Fatorda enter quarters with ease

A brace of goals by attacking medio Joel Colaso and a brilliant strike by Edgar Noronha was enough for Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda to register a convincing 3-0 win over Sao Jose de Areal and enter the quarterfinals of 48th Custodio Memorial football tournamnent played at panchayat grounds, Raia on Saturday.

Both the teams played on level terms in the first session and as most of the approach to the game of both the teams was rather defensive. As such no goals came in the first session, though there were a few glaring opportunities to find the mark.

However, the second session began well for Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda who with some flourishing moves scored great goals.

It was attacking medio Joel Colaso who put Don Bosco Oratory in the lead following a dashing foray which saw defender Roque Borges overlapping a great deal and as he neared the half way line with the ball, he squared it to Velito Miranda who in turn passed the ball to Joel Colaso who banged it in to beat Sao Jose de Areal keeper Joseph Monteiro in the 52nd minute.

Goaded by success, Don Bosco Oratory thereafter began to have possession in their favour and with some fast paced moves buttressed their lead in the 65th minute through Edgar Noronha whose angular effort crashed to the far corner of Areal nets.

Sao Jose de Areal’s defence thereafter began to crack under slightest pressure and even as Vishal Fernandes, Mario Baretto, Darryl Costa and Sameul Costa tried to contain the maurading Don Bosco strikers, their efforts seemed not enough as soon thereafter Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda scored their third goal through Joel who completed his brace of goals for the day.

Joel Colaso who was in the thick of action raced on the right flank and on receiving a neat pass from Rahul, took two steps forward and placed the ball to the far corner of Sao Jose de Areal nets in the 69th minute. The last ditch effort of Sao Jose de areal team did not pay results as the defence of Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda team along with their keeper S Pereira were a hard nut to crack.
