Dayanand High School, Chodan observed Science Day with a state level science exhibition for neighbouring school. The two-day competition had three competitions for the students viz – Project Making, Teaching Aid and Poster Competition. In all 13 schools participated in these competitions.
In his inaugural speech the chief guest Chairman – Ideal High School Pilgao, Ramchandra Garde encouraged the students to strive hard to achieve success. He also told students that, to do well in Science, students have to be very observant.
On the following day the valedictory function was held, for which the chief guest was associate professor of Computer Science and Technology, Goa University, Ramrao Surya Wagh. He informed students about various on-line courses that are conducted by the Goa University. He also appealed to the students to keep the traditional methods of cultivation and our life style intact. He also congratulated the management and staff for their commendable efforts undertaken, to achieve the honour of completing 50 glorious years in the field of education. This was followed by the prize distribution function. The Goa Science Centre Miramar conducted various programs for students on both days. There was a workshop on ‘Fun with Liquid Nitrogen’ experiments and also a film show. The programme was conducted by Shubhada Pednekar and Sapada Parab, both education assistant from Goa Science Centre, Miramar.
A sky observation was held in the school premises. This programme was conducted by Viddesh Khandeparkar from the Friends of Astronomy, Panaji.
The judges for the competitions were Udai Savoikar, Rajmohan Shetye, Varsha Hoble, Vishvesh Fatrekar and Sarvada Gaonkar.
The first place winners of the project making competition Sohan Patkar and Tanvi Gimonkar from Ideal High School, Pilgao; second place was given to Jatin Hosmani and Abbas Khan from Our Lady of Grace High School, Bicholim and third place was given to Saniya Chodankar and Bhakti Nagvekar from Poira High School, Poira, Mayem .
In teaching aids, first place was received by Siddhi Karbe of Our Lady of Grace High School, Bicholim – Goa; second place went to Saisha Gaonkar of Poira High School, Poira, Mayem and third place was awarded to Padmaja Chari of Bal Bharati Vidyamandir, Ribandar.
In the poster competition, first place went to Tanvi N Surlikar of Our Lady of Grace High school, Bicholim; second place to Nirat Nayak of Sharda English High School, Marcela and third place was given to Nadish Sawant of Shantadurga High School, Bicholim.
