There are four to five buildings in Panaji which are on the verge of collapse, said CCP Mayor Surendra Furtado, pointing out that two among them are the school buildings – Progress High School building and Old Mahatme School building. Furtado said that he “forwarded a letter to the CCP Commissioner twice to take action on these buildings, but nothing is happening.” The Mayor also took up the case of the Cine National building. He said that it is a CCP property and the corporation wants to take it back for constructing a multi-storey parking building. The CCP, he added is seeking legal advice to take back the property. Reacting to the incident of collapse of ceiling and wall of Clube Nacional on Sunday, Furtado said that the building is a heritage structure and the government must take up its repair work.
