Dandia Garba contest underway in Vasco

 

VASCO: Eighth All Goa Dandia Garba Dance Competition was kicked off at Vaddem Nagar High School Ground, New-Vaddem and will conclude on October 22 with the performances of three top troupes followed by prize distribution ceremony.

The contest is being organised by Nivedam Social Cultural and Sports Club of New-Vaddem in association with Dabolim MLA Mauvin Godinho, Zuari Agro Chemicals Ltd, Felicity Health Club and Doodhsagar Resort.

The inauguration was done by Godinho by lighting the traditional lamp in the presence of Anita Thorat, Ligorio Monteiro, Brahma Pawar, Surendra Raut, Nivedam Navratrotsav Committee-2015 president Mahesh Korgaonkar, Apa Salgaonkar, Deepak Naik, Mangaldas Narvekar, Sudesh Dabholkar, Milind Kakodkar, Mahesh Govekar, Ladu Parwar and others. Speaking on the occasion, Godinho appealed to the people to preserve art and culture by organising events like Dandia and Garba which is a folk dance of Gujarat but widely accepted all over the world. He appreciated the efforts of Nivedam boys who have kept the tradition alive for about eight years. He however appealed to the people to organise programmes which would motivate the budding artists.

The programme was compered by Sudesh Bhosle while Mahesh Korgaonkar proposed the vote of thanks. The inaugural function was followed by a Dandia Garba dance performance by Shantadurga Houshi Group, Calangute.
