Throat swab samples of the inmates of Cuncolim old age home were collected on Friday after a cook at the facility tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday. The Provedoria-run old age home was cordoned off as the samples were collected.
A team of health personnel, with an ambulance from the Balli primary health centre (PHC), began the work of collecting the samples of around 25 to 30 inmates of the old age home.
Speaking about the development, Cuncolim Municipal Council deputy chairperson Viddesh Desai said precautionary measures had already been taken up. “The old age home cook had tested positive because of which all those residing in the old age home had to be tested. In addition, the municipality has also taken up sanitisation of the area including the municipal office,” he said.
Since the old age home comprises of senior citizens, many of whom could not be taken to the Balli PHC, the health officials visited the old age home to collect their samples.
Meanwhile, the municipality has reduced the entry of people to its office with a compulsory temperature check and hand sanitisation procedure at the office entrance.
