Panaji: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Friday said that all options are open before the government, including formation of a state mineral development corporation, to restart the mining activities in the state, as the mining tangle has been dragging on in the Supreme Court.
“We had been expecting relief from the Supreme Court this month. However, hearing on the mining matter has been scheduled for January 8, 2020. We have missed our own the deadline,” he said.
The announcement from Sawant came on the heels of Panchayat Minister Mauvin Godinho saying at a Liberation Day function held at Mormugao that the state would think of forming a mineral development corporation to resume mining activities in case no relief came from the SC by January-end.
When reporters sought a comment on Godinho’s statement, Sawant maintained that the state has kept open all the options including formation of the mineral development corporation.
“The government will explore a solution to the mining tangle either through court or other options,” he explained.
The iron ore industry in the state came to a standstill in March 2018 following the SC order.
