Cop, wife killed in road mishap in Bicholim taluka

 

SANKHALI: A police head constable Sitaram Sagun Gawas (42) and his wife  Suvarnalaxmi (38) were killed and their two children sustained injuries when the car in which they were travelling collided head on with  a tipper truck near Mohit ISPAT factory at Navelim in Bicholim taluka on Sunday.

The two injured children –  Saloni (14) and Shashwat (5) – are undergoing treatment at the Goa Medical College  and Hospital, Bambolim.

The police said that Sitaram, who was attached to the Ponda traffic cell and a resident of Ambegal Pale-Bicholim, was travelling to his in-law’s place with his family in their Wagon-R car (GA-04-C-4878). The car collided with the tipper truck (GA -04-C-1518), which was proceeding from Navelim towards the factory, around 11. a.m.

Sitaram died on the spot while his wife, who along with her two children, was rushed to the GMC, breathed her last around 3 pm.

They had been first taken to the primary health centre, Sankhali, but  later moved to the GMC.

A panchanama of the accident was conducted by ASI Harishchandra Parab of Bicholim police.

PSI Anand Narvekar is investigating the accident under the guidance of deputy superintendent of police Ramesh Gaonkar and PI Narayan Chimulkar.
