Panaji: After witnessing an early lead in the second round, the supporters of Atanasio Monserrate alias Babush gathered at the Polytechnic – Altinho circle in the morning and soon ex-mayors Surendra Furtado, Yatin Parekh and councillors joined them.
Babush, who came to the counting centre in his car, and was soon surrounded by his supporters and well wishers, amidst shouting of slogans ‘Babush Zindabad.’
The people waited patiently in the scorching sun to greet their leader.
By the time, Babush reached the counting centre, there was bursting of crackers inside the compound of the residential quarters of electricity department where a sizeable number of supporters had gathered and a truck was being decorated for the victory procession.
Babush, after going through the formalities at the counting centre, came out along with the mayor Uday Madkaikar and joined the crowd in celebration and was greeted with bouquets and garlands. A group of supporters said, “We wanted a change in Panaji,” while others said, “We knew Babush would win.”
