The Chief Minister, Pramod Sawant, inaugurated a computer lab at the Government High School, Amona, donated by Vedanta Sesa Goa iron ore plant. The inauguration was followed by a felicitation ceremony organized for the school’s teachers. The computer lab facility is intended to benefit the students as well as the teachers of GHS Amona by providing both groups a unique and very useful opportunity to undergo computer-based e-learning. The students are expected to not only learn the basics of computer operations but also empower themselves for possible careers in the IT industry.
Present at the occasion were NL Vhatte, director, Value Added Business, Vedanta, along with the school’s PTA members, the school management committee, its teaching and support staff and the school students.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister, Goa, said, that the initiative would help the students by providing them with the basic knowledge about computers and their usages. “This skill is absolutely critical and very vital in today’s technologically driven world. I extend my appreciation towards Vedanta for their continued efforts towards the socio-economic upliftment of our community. These steps hold more meaning given the challenging times our people live in today. I strongly appeal our community youth to make use of this facility to develop themselves as technocrats to such an extent so that they can explore best of employment opportunities not only in Goa but also other parts of the country and abroad. I urge students, teachers, and all others from this area to come ahead and avail the maximum benefit from this computer lab facility,” said the Chief Minister
Speaking on the occasion Vhatte said, that, sustainability and community development are an integral part of Vedanta’s business philosophy. “As a responsible corporate we always strive hard to contribute our maximum towards Socio-Economic development of our community. Education is one of the major thrust areas of our CSR interventions. The Sesa Technical Schools, e-shiksha, Goa Mining Engineering College, Smart Class, Awareness programs etc. are few of the projects that we have undertaken as part of our education thrust.”
