CM needs to meet stakeholders to resolve Dabolim garbage problem: Godinho

Dabolim MLA Mauvin Godinho has informed that Chicalim comunidade has allocated land for composting pits in order to help Chicalim panchayat in tackling garbage problem.
Godinho was addressing media after having a meeting with Chicalim panchayat members in his constituency. The meeting was attended by sarpanch Prajyoti Kudalkar, panch members Sebastiao Pereira, Raul D’Costa, Nilam Naik, panchayat secretary Vidur Fadte besides Chicolna Bogmalo sarpanch Laxman Kavlekar.
Godinho informed that the system of door-to-door garbage collection in Chicalim panchayat area had come to a grinding halt.
“The present panchayat body will streamline door-to-door garbage collection in all the 11 wards by way of segregation,” he said.
He took a dig at certain authorities for discharging sewage in the open through a nullah located near Assoi Dongri.
He alleged that the contractor appointed by AAI authorities to lift garbage from Dabolim airport premises was dumping the garbage in the open at several spots within the jurisdiction of panchayat.
He urged the government to ask Mormugao municipal authorities to collect garbage from Chicalim and Chicolna Bogmalo panchayat areas which would prevent the incidents of bird-hit reported at the airport.
Godinho demanded that the Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar convenes a joint meeting of all stakeholders including Navy, AAI, local panchayats and other agencies to resolve the issue of garbage.
He also demanded the state government to allocate land at IDC Verna to tackle garbage problem of four constituencies of Mormugao taluka.
“Everyone is concerned about the bird-hit incidents, but don’t know whether the government agencies are waiting for plane crash to happen,” he said. He urged the government to come out with a permanent solution on the problem.
