President of state unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Sadanand Tanawade, on Friday, said that the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has taken the decision to allow grocery shops to remain open against his own wish.
“As a doctor by profession, Chief Minister is aware of the consequences of COVID-19 if community transmission of the virus starts. However, there was a demand from many people that the state government should keep grocery shops open as per the central guidelines. So on Thursday, he decided to allow grocery shops to remain open so that the people get the essential commodities. But, it was against his wish,” Tanawade said.
The BJP president also lashed out at the Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat, Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte and Goa Forward Party chief Vijai Sardesai for creating panic and confusion among the people over the availability of essential commodities.
“They were a part of the all-party meeting called by the Chief Minister. But they didn’t raise any issue. Now, through social media they are creating confusion,” he said, and appealed to everyone not to play politics on coronavirus.
Tanawade also appealed to the people to follow social distancing while purchasing food items and other necessary things at the grocery shops.
