The state cabinet through circulation has approved 27 per cent reservation of seats in municipal wards for other backward classes in the  elections due next month, even as it has also been decided to provide adequate reservations to scheduled tribes and scheduled castes.

Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar told ‘The Navhind Times’ that the  reservations for the OBCs would be in all the municipalities across the state, and the reservations have been made as per their population.

Parsekar also said that reservations for the STs and SCs would be as per the percentage of their populations in the municipal areas and that the figures could vary from municipality to municipality.

This is for the first time that reservations have been made for OBCs, STs and SCs in the municipal elections.

The elections have been scheduled for October 25.
