MARGAO: Margao Municipal Council (MMC) market inspectors, on Wednesday, undertook a drive clearing illegal flex boards and signposts from the KTC area and Borda.
“Many traders have put up flex boards illegally and so the drive will continue on Thursday also,” said the market inspectors Anil Shirodkar and Shaikh Hassina.
Hassina said that, in all, 26 such boards were removed.
They said there were complaints from citizens that huge flex boards were put up by traders along the roads in Margao and Borda areas. “We, therefore carried out an inspection and removed the illegal boards,” Shirodkar said.
“Fines have to be paid and permissions need to be obtained by the traders to put up such boards,” said the market inspectors.
However, so far, the MMC has not made any provision to store the seized goods. In absence of space, the market inspectors dump the seized items near the office entrance and it creates an eyesore for the citizens who visit the office for various works.
Sources informed that in the past the market inspectors had brought up the issue at the council meeting and even urged the council to provide proper place to keep goods that are impounded during anti-encroachment drives.
“How long will the seized goods be lying at the office entrance or in the MMC garden. It requires a proper place,” said a market inspector, speaking to the media.
