Churchill Brothers hammer Salgaocar FC



A hat-trick by Meevan Dias and a brace by Aditya Salgaonkar enabled Churchill Brothers SC hammer Salgaocar FC 5-0 in the All India Football Federation (AIFF) Junior League match at SAG grounds, Utorda on Thursday.

It was Aditya who gave Churchill Brothers SC the lead in the 30th minute following a combined move by attacking medio Arnold Olivera, medio Saideep Pomburphekar and Meevan.

The trio who after involving themselves in fine passing, took the ball inside the Salgaocar FC box and on seeing Aditya unmarked, Arnold who was in ideal position, passed the ball to Aditya on the right flank who lost no time in banging it in past the bewildered Salgaocar FC keeper Syden Furtado.

Within the next two minutes of play, Churchill Brothers inflated their lead through Meevan who dribbled three rival defenders on receiving a good cross from the right flank and smashed the ball to the far corner of Salgaocar FC nets.

Churchill Brothers made it 3-0 in their favour before going for the lemon break as Meevan banged the ball home in the 43rd minute off a nice pass from Tahir Shaikh to complete his brace of goals.

Churchill Brothers did not take much time to increase their tally in the second session when a cracking shot by Aditya – in the 48th minute – helped him score his brace.

As the match reached the 85th minute, Meevan scored a great goal with a powerful right footer to complete his hat-trick.

Churchill Brothers controlled the entire first half proceeding but could not find the mark until the 30th minute as the Salgaocar FC defense somehow stood their ground well to deny Churchill Brothers a break through.

However, once Aditya opened the flood gates, there was no looking back as Salgacaor FC defence manned by Nevil Menezes, Slevib De Melo,Asjal Shaikhand Crosley Luis began to crumble under constant pressure from the Churchill’s strikers.

Salgaocar FC keeper Syden Furtado proved to be a good pair of hands as he brought off two smart saves off Meevan and two more from Aditya midway into the second session of play.

Salgaocar FC who had a few chances in the closing stages of the match but, failed to score as striker Anwil Costa and company simply could not combine well and guide the ball inside the rival nets.

Churchill Brothers S C made two dangerous forays three minutes before end but the Salgacoar keeper stood bravely under the bar to deny the opponents from finding the mark with agility and quick reflexes.
