Churchill Brothers FC continued their domination of the Goa Football Association (GFA) Professional League with a second consecutive victory after beating Velsao Sports and Cultural Club (VSCC) 3-0 at the Nagoa ground on Saturday.
Willis Plaza was at his best scoring his third goal for Churchill whilst Jovel Martins and Schubert Pereira contributed the rest.
Despite some glaring chances that fell to striker Clencio Pinto in the first session, who could not find the mark, Churchill Brothers FC finally made it up by scoring three good goals in the second session to finish with six points and a goal average of plus 8.
Churchill Brothers SC went into the lead through a goal scored by Trinidad and Tobago striker in the 61st minute of play and then defender Jovel Martins scored in the 66th minute through a 25 yard shot. Later, substitute Shubert Pereira, who came in place of Clencio, bulged the nets in the 83rd minute to complete the rout.
Velsao Sports and Cultural Club could have found the mark a minute before Churchill Brothers but the only good chance that fell to their striker Joseph Pereira was muffed. With Churchill’s keeper Md Jafar Mondal at his mercy, Joseph could have easily headed the ball in, but messed up the chance by directing his header over the bar from handshaking distance.
Churchill Brothers FC celebrated the escape with a great goal when Willis Plaza on receiving a pass from Clencio Pinto dodged two Velsao strikers and neatly placed the ball in past the bewildered keeper Presley Mascarenhas.
Churchill Brothers FC buttressed their lead in a sudden move when defender Jovel Martins who overlapped a lot, sent a 25 yard none too powerful shot which spilled from the fingers of Velsao Sports and Cultural Club keeper Presley and went in.
Churchill Brothers scored their third goal following a forward pass from the middle to substitute Shubert Pereira whose left footed rising shot gave no chance at all to Presley Mascarenhas under the Velsao bar in the 83rd minute.
The only move that Velsao Sports and Cultural Club team
made was in the 60th minute when Shubham Rao Dattarao Dessai, who worked his
way down the right flank, sent a smart cross to striker Joseph Pereira who sent
his header off the
Besides this move, Velsao team could not enter Churchill Brothers FC box throughout the proceedings. Velsao at the most came up to the top of the box but the strong defense of Churchill Brothers SC killed them before any threat.
There were times when Churchill’s midfield looked non-existent and the defenders had to do a lot of overlapping to pep up pressure.
Velsao Sports and Cultural Club clearly fell shot in their passing abilities as well as in taking the ball forward on getting the ball.
All in all, Churchill Brothers FC team looked much superior then their rivals.
