Residents of Chorao village will stage a one-day Dharna on Tuesday, January 12 at Azad maidan Panaji in support of their long pending demand of a Chorao bridge linking Chorao with Ribandar, said the president of Chorao Nagrik samiti Shrikrishna Haldankar.
“The governments which came to power have only given assurances to the villagers regarding construction of a Chorao- Ribandar bridge but till date none of the governments has taken any steps to fulfill the said demand” opined Haldankar. He further said that the Chorao- Ribandar bridge has now become the need of the hour. He said, the number of vehicles on Chorao- Ribandar ferry route has increased and commuters have to face a lot of hardship. In this view the government should take immediate steps to construct the bridge. Ambulance and fire tender services have to depend on ferry services which are unreliable, said Haldankar.
Haldankar said that the village panchayat had passed a resolution on the Chorao bridge and subsequent delegations had met the chief minister, deputy speaker and other concern ministers but all efforts have gone in vain. The Chorao Nagrik samiti has finally decided to file a petition in the High Court against the state government for its failure to fulfil the demand and assurance given to Chorao residents. NT
Advocate Prashant Vengurlekar, Ashwin Chodankar, ex- ZP of Mayem Meghana Yende were present at the press conference.
