Chinchinim outshoot Cuncolim on penalties

Cuncolim: CRC, Chinchinim entered the semi-finals of 10th Cuncolim Union Rolling Trophy football tournament defeating Cuncolim Union 4-2 via tie-breaker at Cuncolim grounds on Thursday. The teams played a 1-1 draw during the regulaion time.

Cuncolim Union shot into the lead following a good build up in the middle which saw attacking medio Daulat Dessai dodging two rival defenders and on reaching the edge of the box, passsed the ball to better placed Cydroy Coutinho whose powerful shot crashed to the far corner of CRC, Chinchinim nets, giving no chance to keeper Sunny Fernandes.

The second session saw CRC, Chichinim restoring parity in the 37th minute through Melido Rebello whose shot bulged the nets to surprise the Cuncolim Union keeper.

Both the teams fought a tight battle which saw them going neck to neck in the first session.

CRC, Chinchinim too stitched good moves through medio Chadel Fernandes and Sunny Simoes who were at the heart of CRC, Chinchinim half line as they spread brilliant passes to the strikers upfront.

CRC, Chinchinim could have taken the lead in the sixteenth minute when Chadel raced down the right flank and unleashed a powerful shot which missed the target narrowly.

Five minutes later, Chadel was once again in the thick of action when he dodged a couple of rival defenders and as he was about to pull the trigger, Cuncolim Union’s Jerico Dias came from nowhere to push the ball away to safety.

There were moves and counter moves in the first session which was quite accelerating throughout as the match wore on.

Both teams displayed a positional play and fine dribbling and passing abilities which were pleasing to the eye of the spectators.

Cuncolim Union’s Daulaut Dessai along with Sangam Gaonkar worked in tandem and created some good scoring chances in both sessions, one of which culminated into a goal in the 26th minute when Cydroy unleashed a shot which found the back of the net.

The second session too saw both the teams almost playing on level terms with Cuncolim Union having a slight edge over their rivals in terms of ball possession.

Chinchinim too did not lag behind in any department of the game with their defence as well as the midfield working in complete co-ordination with each other.

Nigel Fernandes and Melido Rebello put up a good show in the defence and midifield for Chinhinim along with Rayan Fernandes and Kidron Fernandes.

CRC, Chinchinim did come charging up in the second session to find the leveller but evertime they made attempts at the goal, the Cuncolim Union keeper Reston Fernandes rose to the occasion to bring in some spectacular


Chiinchinim saw their efforts bearing fruits in the 37th minutes when a shot off Melido Rebello entered the back of Cuncolim Union nets to stun the host team.

In the tie breaker CRC, Chinchinim proved to be the better shooters, scoring accurately on three counts while Cuncoilim Union could find the mark only on one occasion.
